Range Rover Velar will transform into a pure electric vehicle by 2025

The Range Rover Velar Plan aims to develop a pure electric vehicle model by 2025, which will directly compete with the Porsche Macan EV.

The official plan is to transform existing factories into pure electric vehicle production plants starting in 2024, with the pure electric Velar expected to go into production before 2025.

The Velar was first launched as a competitor to the Porsche Macan in 2017, with strong initial sales, but its advantage was weakened as Jaguar Land Rover shifted its production focus to the more profitable Range Rover and Defender during the chip crisis in 2021.

The Velar may be built on the EMA platform, which is designed around a battery pack under the floor of the vehicle, with a "simple" body structure and a flat floor to maximize space utilization. Jaguar Land Rover's core technology for electric powertrains (EDUs) is based on an 800V system, which will provide efficiency of about 4-4.5 miles/kWh (about 6.4-7.2 km/kWh) for the new pure electric vehicle.
